What Are The Symptoms of a Yeast Infection?
This page looks at what signs to be aware of and discusses a yeast infection – symptoms and signs, visual and sensual affecting females, males and babies.
So what are the symptoms of a yeast infection?
Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptoms
The symptoms of vaginal yeast infection are primarily detectable by sight, smell and uncomfortable sensations / feelings. When all things are considered it’s easy to appreciated that it’s a most undesirable condition indeed.
The first thing you may become aware of is a feeling of discomfort such as itching on the skin of the vagina and/or around the vulva. There may be a burning feeling, particularly when urinating or during sexual activity in the vagina. The intensity of these feelings can vary considerably from very mild and only just noticeable to very painful.
The symptoms of vagina yeast infection are also visible with a redness to skin colouration in the area around the vagina and female genitalia and is associated with itching and/or pain and discomfort. It may also be apparent that there is a white or yellow colored seepage or discharge from the vagina. The discharge can vary in consistency from quite thin and transparent to a more thick ‘cottage cheese’ like substance. It may be useful to check out the pictures of yeast infection to see visible symptoms in photographs.
Last but not necessarily the least significant symptom of vaginal yeast infection is the associated smell which can be quite unpleasant and potentially embarrassing although in some cases the smell may not be present at all or not too bad. Nevertheless, it is desirable to find a suitable yeast infections treatment sooner rather than later.
Male Yeast Infection Symptoms
Balanitis is a condition affecting men where the skin on the head of the penis is inflamed. One of the causes of balanitis is yeast infection, also known as male thrush.
It is not unknown for men to ignore symptoms of yeast infection perhaps hoping that ‘it will just go away’. It is therefore important to be knowledgeable of the male yeast infection symptoms. The most obvious signs of male yeast infection are dry flaking skin or red skin on the head of the penis with white discharge. The skin conditions are accompanied by discomfort such as itchiness or a burning sensation especially during urination and/or sexual activity.
It’s possible that sexual appetite will be diminished and there is a feeling of general lack of energy, dietary preference changes, including cravings for sugary food, and mood swings.
Other symptoms of male yeast infection relate to the digestive system and can be quite wide ranging with the signs being bad breath and wind (possibly unusually severe) with bloating of the stomach, indigestion, constipation and diarrhoea.
Baby Yeast Infections Symptoms
In babies yeast infections are associated with a diaper (or nappy) rash with the infected area appearing red and contrasting sharply with the unaffected or ‘normal’ skin, except where there are isolated red infected areas within the normal skin which may also be raised. These raised areas are a distinguishing feature between a yeast infection and other types of diaper rash. They are also referred to a ‘satellite pustules’ and if they are present then you can strongly suspect that a yeast infection is present.
The rash can be present in and around the anus and spread to the inner cheeks/buttocks and sometimes concentrates within the folds of skin if the infant has fatty tissue or ‘puppy fat’ in their bottom area. Of course there may also be associated discomfort so the baby may be more tearful and prone to crying.
