Treating Thrush

A yeast infection or thrush, also frequently called as Candidiasis is a consequence of surfeit yeast growth in the body. An illness of this type is not in any way gender specific as it occurs in males and females both.  Lack of personal hygiene and lack of good skin care may not be the sole cause of this illness but can definitely contribute to its severity.  People who have diets that are high in sugar are more susceptible to yeast over growth.  This type of an infection is frequently seen in parts of the digestive system like the mouth, the esophagus and the digestive tracts and also in the bladder and the genital areas of both men and women.

When it comes to treating thrush, antibiotics are not effective.  In fact they are unadvisable completely because they kill off other bacteria that thrive on the same resources as the yeast and exacerbate the illness.  Other general treatments for thrush include creams and lotions that are to be topically applied on affected areas.  These treatments have a high success rate when the infection is in its earlier stages.  These topical ointments are antifungal in nature and attack the resident yeast in the area they are applied to.  There are some oral drugs in the market which are highly recommended by physicists.  It is said that Fluconazole, taken just once can effectively treat this kind of an infection. In fact a lot of women prefer this oral drug to a lot of other methods of treatment because it is less messy unlike topical ointments.

Topical ointments which are said to greatly improve the infection usually contain clotrimazole and miconazole and have to be applied directly on the infected skin.  Ointments and creams are also preferred by some because apart from dealing with the infection itself, there is some symptomatic relief as well. Yeast infections cause a burning and itching sensation and creams and lotions can be quite soothing to the skin.  There are many different types of tablets and ointments in the market that promise yeast free skin but the question here is – which of them actually deliver what they promise.  Thrush can be a very painful and unsightly condition. It appears as a rash accompanied by lesions that can be quite itchy and uncomfortable when wearing clothes.  It is characterized by red patches on the skin which look rather revolting.  So for a condition like this a trial and error method with ointments and medication is highly unadvisable. It makes more sense to go for a treatment that has been tested.

If we were to take a look at some of the more natural remedies for a yeast infection, the first thing we must think of before the cure is the prevention.  Why cure when you can prevent in the first place? In order to avoid yeast infections on the skin there are some precautions people can take. Yeast thrives in warm and damp environments; therefore a person should take extra care to wipe moist areas of the skin clean.  Cloth on the body should preferably be of an absorbent nature. After passing stools one should wipe backwards to avoid spreading infection to the front of the pubic area. There are several natural remedies for yeast infections.

It is said that Tea Tree oil due to its antifungal properties may be excellent as a topical ointment.  Plain curd can also do wonders when topically applied and when taken orally even.  However, you must make sure that there is no sugar added to the curd if you are buying it from a store because sugar is the yeasts favorite food. Curd can be made at home as well. The good thing about curd is that along with killing off bad bacteria it also gives a cooling and soothing sensation to the irritated skin. Another very good time tested remedy is garlic. The downside though here is that garlic can burn. For a vaginal yeast infection it is safe and effective to take a clove of garlic wrapped in a cloth and insert it into the vagina. Garlic can also be eaten with your food or just downed like a tablet with some water. Amongst other things, Apple Cider Vinegar and Oregano Herb Oil are said to be a good remedies for Candidiasis.  One must take care when using Apple Cider Vinegar because it is rather pungent and can singe the skin. The best thing to do is to dilute it thoroughly in a bath tub and take a long bath in it. We humans rarely drink as much as water as we are supposed to. This in itself leads to numerous health issues. Keeping yourself hydrated at all times may not help your cause alone but it will definitely improve the quality of your life, make you feel healthier and will give you better looking skin.

For increasingly more people, the best way to cure a yeast infection is to go completely natural.  There are several reasons why natural remedies are much preferred over allopathic medication. Allopathic drugs have a lot of chemicals in them and most of the time people may recover from their original illness but may land up with something else. Who is to say how your body will react to chemicals and other things present in the drug or ointment? Natural remedies on the other hand can only be good. They cannot cause side effects and so are definitely preferred. Natural remedies are cheap and can be made at home. Allopathic medication can be expensive sometimes and hard to be procure because they need a doctor’s prescription. The goal of most brands is to sell and in order to do that a lot of them make tall promises which they cannot keep. Does it make sense to go from one medicine to the other to see which one works on you? Is it safe to make your body a guinea pig? Going the natural way can at least guarantee that if it doesn’t help it at least won’t make it worse.
